Eastside Neighborhood Center offers education classes, recreation, and wellness activities for older adults. Services include health and wellness education, such as healthy steps, chair exercise, and computer literacy.

SENIOR NUTRITION PROGRAM

Program Description: Catholic Charities' Senior Nutrition Program serves hot, nutritious meals to more than 100 older adults (60+ years old), Monday through Friday in a social environment.

Note: This is an opportunity to help with the hot lunch program for seniors. Choose a job, a site and day(s) of the week:

SENIOR CENTER VOLUNTEER

Location: Eastside Neighborhood Center

Volunteer Tasks to Be Performed:

  • Provide two (2) hours of service at a senior center social event

  • Participate in cultural social celebrations to foster socialization, prevent isolation, and promote wellness among seniors.

  • Social Lunch Companions

    • Provide companionship to senior participants during an activity/event on-site to socialize and check on their well-being

  • Intergenerational Cooking Demonstration

    • On-site event where a volunteer demonstrates healthy nutrition habits while following traditional recipes involving interaction with seniors.

Abilities needed (skills, attitude, understandings):

  • Open-mind

  • Patience

  • Comfortable working with seniors

  • Positive attitude

  • Ability to think outside of the box

  • Commitment to helping others and 

  • Flexibility

Length of commitment:

  • Commit to at least 2 events (2-hour events)

  • Participate in a 1-hour orientation/training with the Program Assistant

Training offered for this position:

On-site orientation and on-the-job training

John XXIII Multi-Service Center

John XXIII Multi-Service Center offers education classes, recreation, and wellness activities for older adults in a culturally-sensitive environment. Services include ESL classes, citizenship information and referral, health screening and monitoring, wellness education, computer training, noon meals, tai chi, dances, and health education.
