Artist Donates Painting in Gratitude
A beautiful oil painting of Our Lady of Refuge hangs behind the altar at its namesake parish in San Jose.
The painting is a gift of gratitude from Jeimy Amaya, an artist who donated a second work of The Divine Mercy also hanging in the parish.
Jeimy, who is originally from Columbia, came with her family in late 2019 to the Parish Engagement Community Market at Our Lady of Refuge, a parish partnership with Catholic Charities providing a weekly “one-stop-shop” for basic services and groceries. The family was welcomed by Fr. Hugo Rojas, Pastor of the parish, as they accessed services for employment, immigration legal services, groceries, and clothing. Jeimy says she appreciates that she was treated with dignity, especially during the medical care she received from Gardner Healthcare which brings a mobile medical van to the weekly market.
The family continued to come back to the weekly market for food for several months after their initial visit.
Today, the family is working and stable, grateful for the help their received when they needed it most.
Fr. Rojas says, “For me it is a tremendous act of gratitude and a powerful sign of appreciation to the church for positively impacting her life.”
